One of the issues MAP student have chosen Criminal Justice reform as one of the major issues to focus on this school year. Students are convinced a highly intelligent, well structured, and successful rehabilitation program can lower recidivism rates, lower populations in prison, and drastically increase the human dignity of incarcerated individuals in our nation’s prison system.
Archbishop Mitty students have researched and visited successful rehabilitation programs such as The Dolores Mission run by Fr. Mike Kennedy in Los Angeles, and Homeboy Industries a highly successful program in Los Angeles rebuilding the lives of ex-gang members headed by Fr. Greg Boyle.
This October, Mitty Advocacy students traveled to San Francisco to visit the tremendously successful Delancey Street Foundation on the Embarcadero to research how these programs can successfully transform our current criminal justice system.
